Corner 75

What is it? A Hungarian institution in Randwick that’s been given a hit of fresh energy thanks to the Baba's Place and Sixpenny teams.
Why we love it: Dining at Corner 75 feels like stepping back in time – and in many ways, it is. For more than 40 years, this home-style restaurant has welcomed Hungarian-Australians in and warmed them up with matzo ball soup and golden schnitzels. The walls are still covered with the same photographs, art and memorabilia. The space and the food feel comforting and nostalgic. My Hungarian friend says it reminds her of her pop’s old home. Back to the schnitzel, which comes puffed up like a whoopee cushion, flaked with sea salt and brightened with lemon – order that. Service, led by Alice Tremayne, is warm, intuitive and excellent. They’ve teamed up with the Wildflower legends to create a crisp, European-style lager that goes down a treat. And the rainbow, whimsical bathroom also deserves a shout-out. Bring on the next 40.
Time Out tip: If you've never tried Hungarian food before, be guided by the team. The hortobágyi palacsinta – a soft, savoury crêpe stuffed with oyster mushrooms and doused in a terracotta-coloured, creamy, paprika-spiked sauce – was one such ripper recommendation.
